God’s Steadfast Love in the Ruins

There are moments in life when the bottom drops out, and all that’s left is the sound of your own heartbeat echoing in the silence. I remember standing in that doorway, face to face with the man I once loved, and realizing the person I knew was gone. His eyes were empty, his spirit hollow. He was alive, but everything true in him had died. It was his arm with the needle—but it was my soul that bled.
In the days that followed, silence became my only companion. The house felt colder, heavier. I went through the motions of living—mothering, working, surviving—but inside, I was unraveling. And yet, even in that unraveling, God was already weaving something new.
When everything fell apart, I learned the sacred art of letting go. I stopped covering, fixing, pretending. I let the wreckage lie where it fell, and in that surrender, I found peace—not because the pain vanished, but because Christ met me there, in the ashes.
The Lord’s steadfast love isn’t proven by how quickly He delivers us from the fire, but by how fiercely He walks through it with us. “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14). And He did.
He fought for me through the kindness of strangers who became family. Through groceries left on the porch, rides for my boys, and the soft voices of friends who refused to let me fade. He fought for me through every tearful prayer and every sleepless night when His Spirit whispered comfort I didn’t have words to ask for. “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18).
I used to think God’s provision came in grand gestures—miracles that split seas or silenced storms. But sometimes, His provision is in the smallest mercies: clean laundry, a quiet morning, a child’s laughter. Even the lint trap became holy ground when I realized I was still standing, still fighting, still breathing.
Through it all, I came to understand this truth: God’s love is steadfast, not situational. His grace is unearned, not uncertain. “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23).
If you’re standing where I once stood—in the ruins of what used to be—hear me: You are not forgotten. God’s steadfast love has already stretched itself around you. His provision is already moving toward you.
Take one moment at a time. Handle only what you can today. Every small victory—every meal made, every prayer whispered, every tear dried—is a testimony of His faithfulness. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26).
You are not alone. The same God who carried me through the fire will carry you, too. His love does not waver. His promises do not fade. And His provision will meet you right where your strength ends.
Prayer:
Lord, when the world falls apart and my heart feels too heavy to carry, remind me that You are steadfast. You fight for me when I am still. You provide for me when I am empty. Teach me to see Your mercies, even in the smallest things, and to trust that Your love will hold me steady through every storm. Amen.
